Global Excel Awards finalists revealed

In April, the inaugural Global Excel Awards kicked off, allowing you to put forward the names you believed most deserved recognition across five categories based on their achievements in the Microsoft Excel industry.

The categories are:

🏅 Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry

🏅 Most Obscure Use of Excel

🏅 Lifetime Achievement

🏅 MVP in the Making

🏅 Best Microsoft Excel Add-In

Once the nomination period closed, we counted and verified the results before confirming our finalists and commencing with the voting stage.

By the way, if you haven’t participated already, be aware that voting closes on 4 June at 23:59 BST. Cast your votes here.

In the meantime, let’s run through our finalists in alphabetical order and see what they’ve been nominated for.

Andrew Grigolyunovich

Finalist for: MVP in the Making

Andrew is a financial modelling expert and founder and CEO of the popular Financial Modeling World Cup. In 2017, he finished fifth at the ModelOff financial modelling world championships in New York.

Bill Jelen

Finalist for: Lifetime Achievement

Bill founded MrExcel.com in 1998, offering tips and solutions for all things Excel, thanks to its highly active forum. He’s also authored 60+ books and published 2000+ tutorials on his YouTube channel.

Bob Umlas

Finalist for: Lifetime Achievement

Bob has been using Excel since version 0.99 and published over 300 articles on a range of topics. He’s also spoken at many conferences and authored three books, as well as retaining his Microsoft MVP status for a quarter of a century!

Chandeep Chhabra

Finalist for: MVP in the Making

Chandeep is an Excel and Power BI trainer and consultant. Having worked for an investment bank for four years, in 2013, he began a journey of self-employment, helping people to become quicker and smarter with these programs.

Chintan Patel

Finalist for: Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry & MVP in the Making

Chintan is a Microsoft Certified Trainer who specialises in delivering sessions for business users and preparing candidates for Microsoft Office Specialist exams. He has vast knowledge of Excel and a range of other applications.

Diarmuid Early

Finalist for: Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry

Diarmuid is a serial winner in financial modelling, having appeared in five ModelOff finals, as well as being the top-ranked master at the Financial Modeling World Cup.

George Lungu

Finalist for: Most Obscure Use of Excel

George is a consultant who wowed the crowd at February’s Global Excel Summit, with his breathtaking creations in Excel. They included a sprite-based engine, a rotatable house, and a flight simulator!

Leila Gharani

Finalist for: Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry & Most Obscure Use of Excel

Leila is best known for her Excel tutorials on her hugely popular YouTube channel, which has over two million subscribers. She has also launched various courses on Excel and Power BI aimed at helping people get ahead in the workplace.

Liam Bastick

Finalist for: Lifetime Achievement

Liam has been in the financial modelling sphere for 30 years, having worked in many different sectors like banking, energy, and media. He’s also the founder of consulting firm SumProduct and the author of several books.

Patryk Samborski

Finalist for: Most Obscure Use of Excel

Patryk only became a Microsoft MVP this year, which was a reward for his fine work as a VBA developer. He’s known for his innovative uses of Excel, which include controlling a coffee machine and robotic hand!

Rahim Zulfiqar Ali

Finalist for: Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry

Rahim is an Excel and Power BI trainer, as well as the founder and CTO of XLR8 Tech Solutions and CEO of Excel Basement. He has shared his expertise with many professionals across organisations and institutions.

Randy Austin

Finalist for: Most Influential Professional in the Excel Industry & Most Obscure Use of Excel

Randy is renowned for his VBA mastery and is the founder of Excel For Freelancers, an elite group of professionals who support each other and share tips and tricks. He also shares many tutorials on his popular YouTube channel.

Romeo Gherasim

Finalist for: Most Obscure Use of Excel

Romeo is a data scientist at Orange who specialises in AI, big data, and automation. He also runs the Excel Data Viz website, showcasing many of his creative visualisations, which are available to download.

Sammy Mlangeni

Finalist for: MVP in the Making

Sammy is a non-executive director at South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) and a Randy Austin protégé, having been part of the Excel for Freelancers program, proving himself as a highly competent VBA programmer.

Best Microsoft Excel Add-In finalists

This category celebrates the add-ins that empower you to execute tasks not possible or easily done natively.
