Modern Excel Dashboards & Reports
Build dashboards that feel 2027, not 2000.
Most Excel dashboards and reports are functional. They hold the data, they have the numbers, and they get the job done. But there is a big difference between a file that exists and a file that impresses.
This hands-on online Masterclass shows you how to design and build modern, interactive dashboards and reports, from raw data to polished output. Dynamic array functions as the engine. Smart design principles as the guide. AI as the shortcut. Dynamic controls that let users explore the data themselves. A structure so intuitive that no explanation is needed. Outputs that make the right impression the moment the file opens.
You'll leave with a complete, polished dashboard or report and the system to build the next one faster.
In this masterclass
- Dynamic array functions as your data engine
- Design principles that make your dashboards and reports stand out
- Non-native business charts that communicate at a glance
- User-friendly controls – no more "can you filter this for me?"
- Next-level workarounds and time-saving templates
What you'll learn
- Dashboard and report design principles: chart choice, design principles and layout that make your outputs look professional and modern
- A clean setup framework: how to structure your sheets, name your ranges and organise your back-end so everything is easy to maintain and hand off
- Connecting data to controls: link dynamic array functions to slicers, checkboxes and dropdowns so your dashboards respond to the user
- Dynamic array function best practices and error prevention: how to write reliable dynamic array functions and avoid the most common pitfalls before they break your dashboard
- User experience thinking: navigation, interactions and protection that make your work accessible to anyone, even after it leaves your hands
- Reusable templates: a system you can carry into every future project, so you never start from scratch again
This class will be delivered online over two sessions on 25 & 26 May 2027 (4:00 pm–8:00 pm BST each day).
This training is available as a single Masterclass or as part of our Premium (Online) or Ultimate (Online) Global Excel Summit ticket.

Course contents
You'll start by redefining what Excel can actually look like in 2027. We cover the difference between dashboards and reports, what makes an output truly modern, and how to plan before you build. You'll sketch your layout, define your audience and set your goals, so every decision you make from here has a purpose.
This is where the magic starts. You'll build a clean, dynamic data structure using best practices for naming, table setup and slicer connections. We cover key dynamic array functions – FILTER, SORT, UNIQUE, XLOOKUP – and how to wire them together into a back-end that is easy to read, maintain and hand off.
Now we make it beautiful. You'll learn how to choose colours, build a style guide and apply UI design principles directly in Excel. We cover non-native chart types that make people look twice, plus specific design tricks for both dashboards and reports. The goal: outputs that make clients and colleagues stop and stare.
A stunning dashboard that nobody can use is just a pretty problem. In this session you'll add controls, popups, interactions and navigation that make your work accessible to anyone. We also cover how to protect your solution so nothing breaks when it leaves your hands.
In the final session everything comes together. You'll do a full build, pick up small tips for working faster, and create reusable templates so every future dashboard and report starts ahead of where you are today.
